About Mr. Jones

Hello Burnet Middle School! I have loved band since the fifth grade, when the middle school band came to play for us at the elementary school. In sixth grade I chose the trombone as my instrument and worked very hard to develop my skills. I went to Westfield High School in Houston, TX, where we won three UIL State Marching Band Championships and a TMEA Honor Band Competition. My senior year I won a position in the TMEA All-State band.
After high school, I was offered a full-tuition scholarship to attend McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA where I earned my Bachelor of Music. While at McNeese I had opportunities to perform with many ensembles on campus, as well as the Lake Charles Symphony and the Lake Charles Big Band.
I attended Graduate School at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I earned my Master of Music degree. While at SWBTS, I had the wonderful opportunity to perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mahler's Second Symphony with the Fort Worth Symphony as a member of the chorus.
I started my teaching career at Life School, a charter school in Dallas. After five years at Life School, I moved to Rice ISD where I was the assistant director, then head director. The Rice Bands consistently performed at the superior level during my time there. My next job was at McCowan Middle School in DeSoto ISD, where we earned the UIL Sweepstakes award. Finally I am starting my thirteenth year as a band director and my first year here in Burnet CISD. I am so excited for this school year and glad to be here in the beautiful Hill Country.
Go Bulldogs!
