The 2022-2023 Burnet Middle School teacher of the year goes above and beyond every day to support students and staff. He or she is positive to all students and fellow staff members, helping anyone who might need it without question. This teacher does whatever it takes to meet the needs of every student. He or she even calls to see how they can help kids in other teacher’s classes. Always positive, upbeat and greeting everyone with a smile, this teacher is hard working and pays attention to every detail. Students in this teacher’s classroom have demonstrated tremendous growth and improvement. Flexibility has been the name of the game this year. Not only supporting students with reading, this teacher has successfully provided math and science intervention, subjects outside of his/her field. The BMS teacher of the year is Brian Simmons. His colleagues feel that Mr. Simmons deserves this award due to all of the time he puts in with his students in the classroom with leveling and the reading intervention program, as well as for the connections he is able to create and maintain with his students. He builds a strong rapport with students who love going to his class, even though they are struggling readers. Brian Simmons is a shining star on our campus.
