Welcome to the 6th Grade ELA!
This class is a continuation of communication in students’ first/new language, with further reading, listening, writing and speaking development. The formal skills of writing, reading, vocabulary and grammar will progress along the lines of interesting contexts, everyday situations, and a variety of material. This course allows students to review, learn and apply academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities and settings.
Throughout this school year we will focus on building foundations for Reading and Writing process, will analyze Fiction, Poetry, Drama, Informational, Argumentative and Literary Nonfiction texts. We will analyze texts across genres, and will work on research project closer to the end of the school year.
Students will use their notebook for new materials, note taking and reflections.
About Mrs. Thiele:
This is my fifth year teaching at Burnet CISD, and I am extremely excited to meet all students!
Previously, I've been teaching 6th Grade ELA and Writing in Florida. My background includes Masters in Teaching English and German as second languages, and i hold ESOL K-12 Diploma.
I've graduated the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, and hold Florida and Texas professional certifications.
I love being outdoors, sports (swimming, kayaking), hiking, travelling, and meeting with friends and family. My husband is a coach and a High School teacher, and our son enjoys playing with four cats and a dog!

Make-Up Policy:
- Absent students will be required to go to google classroom or check with the teacher for missing work.
- Students will be given extra time to complete any work: students can submit the assignment no later than 4 pm next day without any penalty.
- Any submission after is -10 points for any additional day (weekend included).
- For example, if the assignment is on Monday, students can submit it by Tuesday at 4 pm without losing any points. Next day will be -10 points.
- Students will be advised on due dates ahead of the time.
- Quality of work counts.
- Students can always improve their grade if they reach out to me personally.
Cheating/Plagiarism
Plagiarism or any representation of another's work as your own is cheating. Plagiarism will result in a chance to redo assignments or receive a 0.
Classroom expectations:
- Prompt - In your seat and working on the Warm-up activity when the tardy bell rings.
- Prepared - Come to class with all necessary supplies (pencil, etc.) and any assigned work.
- Productive - Students are engaged and participating.
- Positive - Expecting and striving for success for themselves and others.
- Polite - Respect for staff, other students, self, and property.
