Welcome to Dyslexia Class!
Hello! I my name is Megan Spencer and I am the Dyslexia Specialist at Burnet Middle School.
This is my third year at Burnet Middle School. I have been a dyslexia teacher for the past 6 years at a public charter school where I worked with students in PreK through 12th grade. I received my Bachelors degree from Western Governors University and my Masters degree Educational Leadership at Grand Canyon University. I began teaching 11 years ago in Early Childhood Education and decided to follow my daughter to big school. I found my heart and place in helping students who struggle, becoming a Dyslexia teacher and Special Programs Coordinator.
My family and I moved to Liberty Hill in 2020. We love the country and the small towns of the Texas Hill Country, and we love the people! We have a blended family with 4 children ages 33, 32, 27, and 15. We are blessed to have one handsome grandson so far who will be turning 11 this year.
My family and my faith are my favorite things to spend my time with, and my chickens! I love sports and on the weekends in the fall I am all about the college football. I love my Longhorns, but will root for all the Texas teams. If I am not watching football you will probably find me at the Texas Stars games.
Most of all, I love to teach! My happy place is with my students and helping them to grow. Dyslexia is not a hinderance, it is not a disease. It is a different way of learning! Helping my students to overcome the obstacles and use their gifts to continue to grow is my goal. I look forward to walking with and supporting my students at Burnet Middle School!
At Burnet Middle School we use the Reading By Design program. I have taught this program for the past 5 years and am excited to be bringing it to BMS. As we go through the year I will post resources for both parents and students. Currently you will find a link to the Dyslexia Handbook that was updated in 2022 and an informational booklet on Reading By Design. Please know that I am always available if you have any questions or concerns, my conference period is the last period of the day.
