About Me:
Hello! My name is Mr. Esparza, and I am excited to be your science teacher this year. I have over 10 years of teaching experience and a passion for making science hands-on, engaging, and fun. We will be exploring the world around us through labs, projects, and real-world connections. My goal is for every student to feel confident asking questions, investigating answers, and thinking critically. This year, I am also working toward earning my National Board Certification, which is one of the highest recognitions a teacher can achieve.

Course Description

In 7th Grade Science, students will explore a wide range of topics in physical, life, and earth sciences. Our class will focus on hands-on investigations, data analysis, and applying scientific concepts to everyday life. Students will learn how to think like scientists, collaborate effectively, and communicate their findings.

Unit Overview

  1. Investigating Elements and Compounds – Atomic structure, molecules, and the periodic table.

  2. Investigating Changes in Matter and Solutions – Physical vs. chemical changes, solubility, and concentration.

  3. Investigating Motion – Speed, distance, time, and motion graphs.

  4. Investigating Balanced and Unbalanced Forces – Newton’s Laws, net force, and motion changes.

  5. Investigating Thermal Energy – Heat transfer through conduction, convection, and radiation.

  6. Investigating the Solar System – Planets, moons, and how gravity governs motion.

  7. Investigating Plate Tectonics – Earth’s structure and movement of tectonic plates.

  8. Investigating Human Impact on the Hydrosphere – Water resources, conservation, and human influence.

  9. Investigating Matter and Energy in Ecosystems – Energy flow, matter cycling, and organism interactions.

  10. Investigating Structures and Systems in Organisms – Human body systems and plant systems.

  11. Investigating Inherited Traits – Genetics, reproduction, and population changes.

  12. Investigating Taxonomy – Classification of living things.

Grading Policy
